Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine that can affect both men and women. In many cases, this incontinence can be caused by weak pelvic floor muscles, which are responsible for the ability to control the bladder. The pelvic floor is made up of bowl-shaped muscles that support pelvic organs, like the bladder, uterus and rectum.
Over time, pelvic floor muscles can physiologically change due to reasons such as vaginal delivery, menopause and general aging. When these muscles lose strength, it can cause leakage of urine when you sneeze, laugh, cough or move in a particular way. By rebuilding strength in the pelvic floor, you can improve incontinence.
Urinary incontinence presents itself in 3 different forms. They are:
Emsella is a completely non-invasive procedure that targets your pelvic floor muscles, providing a stimulation similar to that of Kegel exercises. Emsella uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) to stimulate the muscles of your pelvic floor, but doing so at contraction rates, muscle engagement and repetitions that are much higher than what’s possible through exercises without this painless device, including Kegels.
The thousands of contractions you’ll experience in a single Emsella treatment strengthen all areas of your pelvic floor via waves that are able to reach muscle layers deep within your body as well as the more superficial ones that you typically access with normal exercises. This provides a much faster and effective solution than most other treatments for urinary incontinence. By rebuilding the pelvic floor, you’re helping to retrain your muscles to prevent urinary leakage in the future, and some have reported other benefits in their sexual wellness and functioning. Say goodbye to planning your life to avoid embarrassing incidents, be active without fear and fully immerse yourself in social moments, like laughter, without worrying about losing control!
Emsella treatments involve sitting an Emsella chair while remaining completely clothed. These 28-minute sessions start with a slight tingling and vibration sensation in your pelvic floor muscles that then transition into full contractions. The strength of these contractions can be individually-adjusted to suit you, titrating to ensure that you are comfortable at all times.
You’ll remain positioned with your spine straight, feet flat on the floor and legs at a 90-degree angle. You’ll sit in the middle of the chair with your knees about shoulder width apart. Feel free to read a book or watch TV as the treatment works its magic. Some clients (and team members) have even spent the sessions taking care of emails!
You should feel completely comfortable and free of pain during the entire procedure. Most patients require six, bi-weekly 28-minute sessions in order to achieve the best results.
Don’t take our word for it; here’s what actual Emsella patients have to say about their experience!
